| Description |
The 2009 High School Communications Workshop staff is dedicated to providing participants with a challenging and rewarding educational experience. In addition to our ongoing practice of recruiting top instructors from around the country, we have designed our curriculum to address the needs of both beginning and advanced participants. We are introducing a major/minor approach to the 2009 curriculum. Participants will have a major course of study -- the START track -- to provide participants with the experience-appropriate "big picture" tools needed to carry your publication/production through to successful completion. Many participants will also select a minor course of study -- the SMART track -- designed to address specific strengths and interests. Through the SMART track (the minor), participants will become experts in a specialized area. In addition to the START Tracks and SMART Tracks, staff members will work collectively on their big project so that everyone on the team has ownership of the end result. The development and completion of the big project is an integrated part of the curriculum and schedule, instead of an obstacle to overcome on the final night.

Tracks
(minors)
|
Students who select a yearbook or newspaper START Track (major) are required to select a SMART Track (minor). Advisers are encouraged but not required to select a SMART Track (minor). All participants in photography, broadcast, or marketing may NOT select a SMART Track. In cases in which a SMART Track selection is required, you may initially select "undecided". SMART Track selections must be finalized no later than Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
